Arfon Griffiths, the founder of LLD Slate Ltd has over 40 years of experience in Welsh slate industry.

His passion began at just sixteen, when a summer job in a local slate quarry ignited a lifelong connection with this timeless material.

Starting from the ground up, Arfon mastered the traditional crafts of splitting, dressing and blasting slate. His sharp business acumen soon saw him rise to Quarry Manager overseeing multiple famous Welsh slate quarries including Cwt y Bugail, Blaenau Ffestiniog and Penrhyn Quarry in Bethesda.

In 2007, recognising a growing demand for smaller bespoke slate projects, Arfon established a workshop near his home and founded LLD Slate.

We took several photos of Arfon splitting the slate. Working with our designer, she created this brilliant silhouette image from one of the chosen shots. We wanted to use colours that would complement the slate.
